J. Keith Thompson DO, RVT, FACOS
With more than 20 years of experience managing complex leg vein conditions, Dr. J. Keith Thompson is a double board-certified general and vascular surgeon and the Medical Director of the Vein Institute. He specializes in advanced, minimally invasive vein treatments for patients with complex venous disease.
Dr. Thompson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and serves on committees with the American Venous Forum, a national leader in advancing vein care standards and surgeon training. Before founding the Vein Institute, he played a key role in developing minimally invasive vascular treatments in Mississippi and has published research in multiple respected vascular journals.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Thompson enjoys life in South Mississippi with his wife, two children, and four dogs.

Education & Training
Dr. Thompson earned his undergraduate degree in political science and chemistry from The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and completed his medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medicine.
He went on to complete a surgery internship in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by a surgery residency with Ohio University in Columbus, Ohio.
After residency, he completed a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, along with advanced vascular training at The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
He is double board-certified in general and vascular surgery, certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and has performed more than 15,000 vascular and vein procedures.
Over the course of his career, he has presented at national medical conferences and has served as a clinical professor, helping train medical students, residents, and fellows.
Additional Research
Dr. Thompson has contributed research to several vascular journals and performed the first minimally invasive thoracic aortic repair in the state of Mississippi in 2005, later publishing the first state-documented paper on the technique.
During his training at one of Ohio’s busiest Level I trauma centers, he conducted research on blunt kidney artery injuries associated with severe trauma.
His work helped establish treatment guidelines that have since been widely cited in surgical literature.
He has also presented vascular research and lectures at national conferences in cities including Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Cincinnati, Miami, Bethesda, and New York.
