New Patient FAQs
Each patient has unique concerns so you will meet with the provider to discuss your leg veins. Oftentimes, the doctor suggests an ultrasound to identify abnormalities in your leg veins. We can perform this the same day or at your earliest convenience.
An ultrasound is a medical exam performed on your legs to identify abnormalities in your veins. You will be asked to change into shorts to allow the sonographer to access your legs. You will have access to a changing area to store your personal belongings. We also provide disposable shorts if needed.
Please bring identification and a copy of your insurance card.
We have a dedicated website with information to answer your questions! www.veinsms.com If you can’t find the answers you’re looking for, our office staff is ready to answer any question you may have…just give us a call.
EVLT FAQs
If you are suffering from painful varicose veins, leg pain or cramps, leg heaviness or swelling, restless legs, skin discoloration or non-healing wounds you are most likely a good candidate for an EVLT (endovenous laser) procedure.
EVLT is a virtually painless procedure and there is little recovery time required after the treatment. A majority of our patients resume normal activities immediately after the treatment.
No, you don’t need to take time off after an EVLT procedure. You can resume most of your normal activity the same day.
After an EVLT procedure, the symptoms of painful varicose veins, swollen or bulging veins, leg pain, cramps, leg heaviness, or swelling will gradually disappear, and you will have a better quality of life and mobility. Treating symptoms of venous insufficiency also saves you from the risk of blood clots or other serious complications that can occur if varicose veins are left untreated.
Yes, the majority of treatments are covered by insurance. We have a dedicated insurance department to help our patients with insurance-related questions. We accept most major medical insurance and Medicare.
Yes, you may eat a light meal. Increase your fluids with caffeine-free beverages, such as water, for the 24 hours immediately before your procedure. Drinking adequate fluids makes it easier to access your vein.
No. However, if you take anti-anxiety medication such as Ativan or valium then you will need someone to drive you.
Yes, but it is important to make your doctor aware you are on a blood thinner. Also, you may experience more bruising.
Wearing compression stockings helps relieve minor symptoms associated with venous insufficiency.
No! The procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes. Local anesthetics are used to make the procedure much more tolerable.
Walking is encouraged following the procedure. Mild exercise can be performed on the same day. No strenuous leg workouts are suggested for a few days.
You can contact our office 24 hours a day for any concerns you may have. We often ask that you come into the office for a complete assessment.
SCLERO FAQs
Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment that can eliminate unsightly spider veins, leaves no scarring, relieves symptoms, and doesn’t interfere with your normal activities — all in our office!
Sclerotherapy can cause minimal discomfort, but most patients find it very tolerable…especially with the results you get!
Every patient will have unique needs and health considerations, which may influence the number of treatments needed. On average, most patients will require a minimum of 4-6 treatments.
Sclerotherapy requires a series of injections. Multiple injections are often required to achieve the desired result. One series of sclerotherapy is generally not enough to make all your spider veins no longer visible.
Very few. Itching and raised, red areas at the injection site may occur for one to two days after your procedure but should disappear quickly. Additionally, some patients experience bruising around the injection site that may last several days or weeks.
We advise you to wear compression garments (stockings, compression wrap, athletic brace) following your sclerotherapy procedure. This is to help speed up the healing process and improve your results.
We advise you to schedule your appointments approximately 3 weeks apart to allow for full healing to occur. You should continue booking your appointments until you achieve the desired results.
