Dr. Keith Thompson has extensive training in phlebology, the diagnosis and treatment of varicose vein disease and the associated problems including venous leg ulcers. As the Founder and CEO of the Vein Institute of South Mississippi, he specializes in providing the full spectrum of treatment for venous disease including endovenous laser vein ablation, sclerotherapy, and ultrasound-guided foam injections just to name a few.
Dr. Thompson graduated from Ole Miss with degrees in Political Science and Chemistry. He obtained his medical training at Kansas City University of Medicine. Dr. Thompson completed a five-year residency in general surgery at Ohio University in Columbus, Ohio and a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Cincinnati which also included a mini-fellowship in vascular training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation under the tutelage of several legendary vascular surgeons who essentially “wrote the books” on vascular and venous disease. He is a board certified vascular surgeon. He has performed over 10,000 vascular surgical procedures and has been involved in vein care his entire career.
Dr. Thompson has practiced in Hattiesburg, MS the majority of his career. He is married and has teen-age daughters (twins) and several family dogs that frequently think they are children as well. He once had hobbies but now he predominantly enjoys resolving daughter-daughter disputes regarding jewelry and who’s-wearing-who’s clothes.
Dr. Thompson is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and a member of numerous prestigious vascular organizations including the American Venous Forum, Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Vascular Ultrasound, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, American Board of Aesthetic Medicine, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.
